Quick Strikes: The injuries are piling up for the Lightning and Crunch

The Bolts

So… The Tampa Bay Lost 7-1 to the Arizona Coyotes? Cool. Cool. [Raw Charge]

Nikita Kucherov gave the puck away twice on the power play and Michael Grabner converted on both chances going the other way. That was the theme of this game; the forwards completely hung the defense β€” and by extension Domingue β€” out to dry with their turnovers and terrible effort in tracking back and covering for their teammates. The team will need to have a long practice once they arrive home in time to play New Jersey on Tuesday. Get all those bugs out.

And Victor Hedman is out at least a week, and Ondrej Palat is gone for at least a few more days? Cool. Cool. [Raw Charge]

The Crunch are at home tonight in Syracuse to play the Charlotte Checkers, while Cameron Gaunce will be in Arizona either as a healthy scratch or playing on the blueline. This call-up comes as a bit of a surprise considering young defender Erik Cernak was inches away from making the NHL team out of camp. It’s only logical he be the first to get a recall, right?

Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov have a combined four goals through nine games? Cool. Cool. [The Hockey Writers]

Such a big move required Stamkos to shift his thinking. A one-time 60-goal scorer, the captain passed up prime scoring opportunities to pass the puck to his linemate who rarely missed a season ago. Early this season, those same cross-ice passes were intercepted by opponents and sent the other way.

God bless you ThunderBug for your constant awesomeness.

The Prospects

Not only did the Lightning lose, but the Syracuse Crunch also took the L. The Crunch gave up six to the Charlotte Checkers in a 6-3 loss that got very chippy through parts of the game. [Syracuse]

Saturday’s bright spot were goals from defenseman Erik Cernak and rookie forwards Taylor Raddysh and Ross Colton, but they again were dimmed by more bad injury news. Cernak and center Mitchell Stephens left the game with ailments and did not return, joining regulars such as forwards Gabriel Dumont, Kevin Lynch, Michael Bournival, Otto Somppi and Olivier Archambault and blueliner Ben Thomas on the injured list.

Wait…

WHAT?!

Saturday was a disaster. I want a re-do.

Lipanov scored his second goal of the season Saturday in Kitchener’s 4-2 road win over Anthony Cirelli’s former team.

Orlando dubbed its game β€œBoo With The Bears,” where fans participated in a costume competition and did trick-or-treating around the arena. The Solar Bears auctioned the jerseys off to those in attendance, with proceeds benefiting the Jewett Foundation, which supports programs and partnerships that empower and change lives in the Greater Orlando community.
