Quick Strikes: The NHL adds new rule to video review
And the Lightning’s rookie tournament has moved to Nashville.
The Prospects
The Tampa Bay Lightning’s prospect tournament with the Florida Panthers, Washington Capitals, and Nashville Predators has been cancelled due to Hurricane Irma. “As a result, the baby Bolts and baby Preds will play each other in three games on Saturday the 9th, Sunday the 10th, and Tuesday the 12th before heading back to their respective training camps.” [Raw Charge]

NHL top prospect, Andrei Svechnikov, and 2017 third round pick of the Lightning, Alexey Lipanov, will look to become the Dynamic Russian Duo the Barrie Colts of the OHL need to dominate the league this year. “They have great vision. They let the puck do the work. They move their feet all the time and when you’re moving your feet, you’re moving pucks quick and you’re hard to check.” - Head Coach Dale Hawerchuk [The Barrie Examiner]
Want to work for the Syracuse Crunch and have a passion for media? Of course you do! Fully Focused Media, the company that manages the audio/video and social media for the Crunch, has internships available for this upcoming hockey season. [Fully Focused Media]
On a personal note, some of my friends and I are doing, essentially, the same thing with the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL and we love what we do. It’s a great first step for those who want to work in hockey.

Former Lightning defenseman Bruno Gervais retires. Along with the announcement came a very funny quip from his former teammate, Mathieu Garon. “So exactly how many minuses did Gervais receive in 2011-12 due to Garon? Overall, Gervais was a minus-four with the Lightning, tied for sixth best among the Lightning’s defensemen in 2011-12.” [Raw Charge]
Congratulations @bruno_gervais27 for your great career. I apologize for all the minuses you got because of me. Enjoy your new life!

In their season preview of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Sporting News delves into the dynamic duo of Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov. “In Stamkos' absence, the Lighting got a major boost from Nikita Kucherov, a very good player who became a very great player last season sans Stamkos.” [Sporting News]
The Game
The NHL will be implementing a new rule change for this season. When a team challenges an offside call and they lose the subsequent review, that team will recieve a 2 minute penalty. The rule change will not affect goalie interference reviews, only offside reviews. “It’s a potentially powerful infraction. Can you imagine a team in a tight game giving up a goal it thought was offside, losing the challenge, then having to withstand an immediate power-play opportunity? It’s going to make bench bosses much more wary — and ratchet up the pressure on video coaches.” - Elliotte Friedman [Sportsnet]
The Calgary Flames have signed their final RFA, giving centerman Sam Bennett a two-year deal with a cap hit of $1.95 million. Bennett will be 23 when his contract is up. “The fourth overall pick in 2014, Bennett made his NHL at the end of the 2014-15 regular season and then turned heads in the opening round of the playoffs with an impressive showing [as an 18-year-old] against the Vancouver Canucks.” [Puck Daddy]
Bennett on a $1.95M AAV bridge deal is superb.

Very happy with this.
Former NHL enforcer, and Hockey Twitter Legend Paul Bissonnette (aka @BizNasty2point0) will be joining the Arizona Coyotes as a colour analyst for the radio broadcasts. “The Coyotes picked me up off waivers in 2009 and provided me an opportunity to keep playing in the NHL. I played five seasons in the Valley and it's always felt like home to me. The organization has always been first class and the Phoenix media treated me very well as a player.” [NHL dot com]
Wait. What? I was told it was to play! https://t.co/D4lRtFL9Ad
