Quick Strikes: Victor Hedman and Louis Domingue travel with Lightning on road trip

The Bolts

Natalia (@exxtragalactic) of Raw Charge translated an interview between  Tampa Bay Lightning defender Mikhail Sergachev and Dmitry Groshev of Sport-Express about the role of fellow Russian players with the Lightning, comparisons to other defenders, and Sergachev’s own style of play.  [Raw Charge]

“Mikhail Sergachev: Everything’s good. I get to continue my development: the team helps me, and the coaches too. Overall, I’m happy with what’s going on, with the way the Lightning are playing. So the feelings are really positive.”

Speaking of Sergachev, Tyler Seguin and a few other players had some advice for the youngster who was recently healthy scratched right before the All-Star Break. [Tampa Bay Times]

“You see the game in a different light,” said Stars forward Tyler Seguin, often a scratch his rookie year with the Bruins. “It looks slower than it feels. You can dissect certain things, see things coaches talk about. The game is so fast, you don’t realize. When you’re upstairs, you take it all in.”

As expected, the Lightning have recalled goaltender Louis Domingue from Syracuse. [NHL dot com]

“Domingue, 25, has appeared in nine NHL games this season with the Lightning and Arizona Coyotes, posting a 2-6-0 record. In two starts with the Lightning, Domingue has won both games. He made his Lightning debut on January 7 against the Detroit Red Wings, recording 34 saves in the Bolts’ 5-2 victory.”

It was also reported that Victor Hedman will be joining the Bolts for their four-game road trip. Odds are high that he plays in one of those upcoming games. [Tampa Bay Times]

“Thursday is the three-week mark in the expected three-to-six week prognosis. The Lightning plays in Winnipeg on Tuesday, with stops in Calgary on Thursday, Vancouver on Saturday and Edmonton on Monday.”

Erik Karlsson to the Lightning. It’s happening. [Tampa Bay Times]

“I think everyone kind of knows what’s going on around the league, and most of the guys in here know each other,” Karlsson said. “Obviously there’s a few comments tossed around everywhere, but at the end of the day, it’s all in fun.”

The Lightning will likely try to address its blueline at the trade deadline, and Karlsson very well could be a pipe dream for most teams.

The Prospects

AHL Syracuse Crunch update incoming!! Crunch end their week with four of a possible six points. Not perfect, but not bad at all. [Raw Charge]

“So much has happened in the past week alone: goaltender musical chairs was played, ECHL additions through both call ups within the organization and through professional tryout contracts (PTOs) were added to the team, and these guys found themselves suddenly on a team that had more rookies than non-rookies.”

Call it a two-period comeback as Mitchell Stephens and the North Division win the final two games and win the All-Star tournament.

Post-game interviews on the ice like a pro!

It was great to see Matt Taormina there. He’s ccurrently playing in Quebec for the Montreal Canadien affiliate Laval Rocket.

The Game

“NHL could place time limit on official video reviews” facepalm That’s not the issue here, Gary. [Sportsnet]

“During that meeting on Saturday … It was discussed the possibility of one way of executing [reviews] in the future is limiting the amount of time referees could look at the [tablet] and review these things,” said Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston on Hockey Central.

Jaromir Jagr has ccleared waivers and is now finishing off his contract with his hometown team HC Kladno in Czech Republic. Such a sad end to a legendary career. [ESPN]

“Jagr is a native of Kladno and owns the team he will play for. Jagr won’t make an appearance in the Olympics, as HC Kladno is in the Czech second division, a league that does not break for the Olympics. Jagr will attempt to get the team promoted to Czech Republic’s top league, Czech Extraliga.”

Highlight of the Night: Thacher Demko with a flashy glove save to keep the North Division up by one with barely a minute to play in the AHL All-Star Finals. I watcched that save live and I physically jumped out of my couch. The AHL is fun.
