Quick Strikes: Victor Hedman to be featured on NHL’s Top 20 Defensemen Right Now

The Bolts

The NHL Network will be featuring defensemen in their Top 20 X Right Now show, tonight at 7 PM ET. Victor Hedman will be somewhere on this list. Last year he was ranked 5th, between Kris Letang (6th) and Duncan Keith (4th). Will he be higher this year because he was nominated for a Norris? If I had to guess, I’d rank him 3rd. Y’all tell me later if I was correct.

Lightning to host Fan Fest on Saturday, September 16 at AMALIE Arena: “The Tampa Bay Lightning will host its annual Fan Fest, presented by Florida Blue, on Saturday, September 16 at AMALIE Arena. Times will be announced at a later date. Fan Fest, presented by Florida Blue, will be the first chance for fans to see and interact with the 2017-18 Lightning. The event is free and open to the public.” [TBL]

Go team go!

NHL.com exploded with a bunch of Lightning stuff yesterday.

Tampa Bay Lightning fantasy preview for 2017-18: “As part of NHL.com’s 31 in 31 series, our fantasy hockey staff is breaking down each team’s landscape. Fantasy-relevant players are listed in order of rank in NHL.com’s top 250. Today, we look at the Tampa Bay Lightning.” [NHL]

Three questions facing Tampa Bay Lightning: You’ll never guess #3. “1. Can Steven Stamkos and Ryan Callahan stay healthy?” [NHL]

Inside look at Tampa Bay Lightning: “Stamkos is expected to be ready for training camp. The Lightning captain had 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) in 17 games before missing the rest of the season after tearing the lateral meniscus in his right knee Nov. 15. He will play on the top line with forward Nikita Kucherov, who will look to build on his breakout season of 2016-17, when he had 85 points (40 goals, 45 assists) in 74 games.” [NHL]

Tampa Bay Lightning key statistics: “The absence of one of a team’s top forwards can cost it 3.07 points in the standings, according to a study by Gabriel Desjardins. Those points would have made a big difference last season for the Tampa Bay Lightning, who missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs by one point playing 65 games without Stamkos, who tore the lateral meniscus in his right knee Nov. 15.” [NHL]

Andrei Vasilevskiy Is Ready to Be the Tampa Bay Lightning Starting Goaltender: “I already know this season it’s going to be more on me. It’s going to be more responsible for me,” Vasilevskiy said in a statement. “I’m ready.” [Last Word on Hockey]

The Prospects

Comets to host rival Crunch in AHL preseason game at Kennedy Arena: “This will be the first preseason game at Kennedy Arena since 2014-15 and third overall. The Comets and the Vancouver Canucks will donate all ticketing and concession proceeds to the City of Rome.” [Rome Sentinel]
