Rick Bowness breaks coaching record in shootout loss
He was behind the bench for his 2,165th game.
Tampa Bay Lightning associate coach Rick Bowness broken an NHL record Friday night: number of games coached as a head coach or associate coach. And he did it by surpassing Scotty Bowman.
The Lightning earned a hard-fought point on the back of goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy but lost in the shootout against the Minnesota Wild, 2-1.
Both goals came in the second period: Nino Nieddereiter put the Wild up 1-0, and the Lightning responded about three minutes later on the stick of Brayden Point.
Lightning defenseman Jason Garrison played in Vancouver when Bowness was an associate coach there. Garrison said Bowness hasn’t changed much and is the same man who brings positive energy to the rink and wants his players to be better. Watch Garrison’s full pregame comments below.
