You woke up expecting a quiet Saturday morning, and got nothing of the sort if you checked social media. LW Ryan Malone has been arrested for DUI and cocaine possession.
The gritty forward was arrested at 5:40 AM in Tampa. I link to his booking page here but it would seem the web site has crashed or is under much duress due to web traffic at this point.
General manager Steve Yzerman acknowledged this morning’s news in a brief statement to the Tampa Bay Times:
“We are aware of the situation concerning Ryan Malone this morning,” general manager Steve Yzerman said in a statement. “Ryan will not travel with the team to Washington today, but beyond that we cannot comment further at this time.”
This opens up many questions, many I don’t want to think about. One minor aspect in the grand scheme of things that ocmes to mind is how this (potentially) erases some of the playoffs experience that the Lightning roster hast. But that’s the sports aspect of things which sort of ignores the personal questions of how long he’s been using or able to get away with it?
Malone has 5 goals and 10 assists in 57 games this season.
