Solar Bears Update 2021-22 Schedule

We are less than a month away from the 2021-22 ECHL regular season.

If you recall, back in May I broke down the Orlando Solar Bears’ tenth ECHL season schedule.  Well, that turned out to be the first draft.

With the Solar Bears sharing a building with the NBA’s Orlando Magic, whose schedule tends to take precedence, there is always the annual schedule change.

Opening Night will stay the same—Orlando will host the Atlanta Gladiators on Saturday, October 23rd.  The first three changes come in November, where on Tuesday the 9th the Solar Bears will host Jacksonville; a Thanksgiving Day morning game on November 25th at 11 AM vs. Norfolk has been added; and Orlando will finish the month by hosting the Admirals on Monday, November 29th.

Four changes were made to the December schedule: the Solar Bears will host Jacksonville on Thursday, December 2nd; host Atlanta for the annual Teddy Bear Toss on Tuesday, December 21st; host Florida on Sunday, December 26th; and a special noon start on New Year’s Eve against South Carolina.

Two Monday night games were added to the January schedule: the 10th against South Carolina and the 31st against Utah. March changes include a Tuesday night game on the 1st against Greenville, Thursday, March 10th against Jacksonville, and a Friday, March 25th matchup with the Swamp Rabbits, which will also be Teacher Appreciation Night.

Finally, three changes in April: a Monday night match-up against the Everblades on the 4th, Wednesday, April 6th against Norfolk, and the home finale will be Tuesday, April 12th against Jacksonville.

ECHL Calendar

On Wednesday, the ECHL released their list of critical dates for the 2021-22 season and the 2022 offseason.

Teams can start reporting to training camps on Thursday, October 7th for physicals and team meetings, with on-ice sessions starting the next day on the 8th.  Teams will need to submit to the league their Season Opening roster on Wednesday, October 20th, with the regular season kicking off in Trois-Rivieres the next day, as the expansion Lions host Newfoundland.  The full slate begins on October 22nd.

On November 20th and 21st, teams will need to reduce their active rosters from 21 to 20 players.  The Christmas waiver/trade freeze will be from December 22nd-26th, with a three-day holiday break from games in between.

The league’s All-Star break is January 17-20th, with the All-Star game in Jacksonville on the 17th.  A reassignment/trade deadline will come on a date to be determined in March.

The regular season ends on April 17th, with Kelly Cup playoff rosters due to the league the following day.  The postseason begins on April 20th.

In June, preparations for the 2022-23 season kick into high gear, with teams’ protected lists due on the 1st, the Future Considerations trade deadline on the 13th, and the Season-Ending Roster deadline on the 15th.  Teams can start signing players for 2022-23 on the 16th.

The next date for Orlando to look forward to is October 5th, when the parent Lightning plays a preseason game against the Panthers.
