Quick Strikes: Celebrating Steven Stamkos’s 600 points with the Tampa Bay Lightning

Steven Stamkos is doing pretty well with the Tampa Bay Lightning this season. He quietly hit the record of 600 points during Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. “In the wake of their 7-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins three milestones were achieved. Steven Stamkos reached 600 career points (in 595 games) and became the Tampa Bay Lightning’s all-time leader in power-play goals.” [Raw Charge]

“It almost seems fitting, then, that Stamkos scored his 600th regular-season point during the Lightning’s 7-1 beatdown of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Even so, it’s resounding that – with all Stamkos has been through – he’s at that level at 27, and he’s done so in 595 games.” [NBC]

I was at the game and this moment was, indeed, lovely. The Tampa Bay Lightning Gives Navy Family Sweet Reunion. “Buettell set up the surprise to make his parents’ night, and touched a lot of hearts in the process. Bay Bolts went to the 25th anniversary celebration at Expo Hall, and wrote about it. The Original Home of the Lightning: 25 Years Later— “This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Lightning’s 25th Anniversary celebration held at their original stomping grounds, the Expo Hall in the Florida State Fairgrounds. Shame on the sites that wrote up the fake news. It’s rare that Snopes has to debunk any bullshit about hockey, but they did in this case: Was a Black Hockey Player Fired For Raising His Fist During the National Anthem? “Disreputable web sites regurgitated a “satirical” story about J.T. Vladislav Namestnikov is Lightning’s top-line ‘secret’. “Namestnikov, the Lightning’s first-round draft pick (27th overall) in 2011, is quietly having a great start to the season with three goals and 10 points in the first nine games.” [Tampa Bay Times]
