Streaking Lightning host Canucks (preview)

WHERE: St. Pete Times Forum, Tampa, Florida
WHEN: 7:30 PM EST
MEDIA: Sun Sports (cable), 620 WDAE (radio)
OPPONENT COVERAGE: Nucks Misconduct, Canucks Hockey Blog

Knowing Roberto Luongo is likely in net tonight for the Canucks has me nostalgic in the worst way possible.

How many times did Roberto, as a member of the Florida Panthers, stymie, stonewall, and shut down high powered shenanigans of the past Tampa Bay Lightning offensive squad? Brad Richards, Ruslan Fedotenko, Cory Stillman, vaclav Prospal, Freddie Modin, Vinny, Marty…

It didn’t matter, Roberto was largely lights-out, even with a weak squad in front of him.

If a career .925 save percentage, a 2.42 GAA, and 3 shuouts in 27 games against Tampa Bay is any indication, the Lightning will have their work cut out for them tonight.

David Hale, who returned to Tampa a few days ago, was formally recalled yesterday by the Lightning and placed on Injured Reserve by the team.

Meanwhile, yesterday’s news of Mark Parrish will breed more news today as Parrish has cleared waivers. Expect a team announcement of a signing later in the afternoon.

Signs point to the Lightning staying with the hot hand in net — Antero Niittymaki is en fuengo in his last seven (6-0-1).

…In case you missed it, From The Rink interviews Lightning trainer Tommy Mulligan.

…oh, and Steven Stamkos is no longer “only nineteen!”
