Syracuse Crunch release Kevin Morris and Cory Ward from PTO contracts

The Syracuse Crunch and their general manager Julien Brisebois have announced the release of forwards Kevin Morris and Cory Ward from professional tryout contracts. Both players were signed after Cameron Darcy and Brian Hart were assigned to the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL.

Left winger Morris played in two games for the Crunch with no points and a minus-one plus-minus rating. He also had a fight to account for his five penalty minutes.

Morris is in his first full season as a professional hockey player after spending four years at the University of Miami (Ohio). He’s had 25 points in 48 games this season for the Manchester Monarchs of the ECHL. He also played in six games for Manchester and two games for the Binghamton Senators of the AHL at the end of last season.

Center Cory Ward is also in his first full season as a professional. He played four seasons for Bemidji State before going professional at the end of last season. He played in eight games in the AHL for the St. John’s Ice Caps. This season he has 29 points in 50 games for Manchester. In two games with the Crunch, he had one assist, was plus-one and had two penalty minutes.

Both players will return to the Monarchs after their release from the Crunch. This move, coupled with the trade of Jeremy Morin, is likely a good sign that veterans Tye McGinn and Michael Bournival are ready to return to the lineup next weekend. The Crunch have a three-in-three weekend coming up starting with the Hershey Bears at home on Friday, then at home against the Binghamton Senators on Saturday, followed by playing in Binghamton on Sunday.
