Lightning seek local art for 20th anniversary season exhibition
As part of the official 20th anniversary festivities, the Tampa Bay Lightning are reaching out to the creative minds of the area by seeking artwork submissions – be they drawings, paintings, photographs, or sculptures – to appear at the Tampa Bay Times Forum this season on the suite level.
Open to artists in the greater Tampa Bay metro area, the submissions are open until September 5th, with winners to be announced October 1st. The team press release on the matter, with details on prizes and submission guidelines,is below.
LIGHTNING OPEN CALL TO TAMPA BAY ARTISTS
TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning are kicking off their 20th anniversary celebration today by inviting the local arts community to submit pieces of original artwork to be hung for display at the Times Forum during the 2012-13 season. Submissions are due by September 5, 2012 and artists will be notified by October 1 if accepted into the exhibition.
Interested artists may submit artwork in the form of painting, photography, drawing or sculpture by logging onto www.tampabaylightning.com/art. Computer art will not be accepted. Artists must be 18 years of age or older and must live or work in the Tampa Bay community (Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk or Sarasota counties). Each individual may only submit up to three fully-completed, original works of art. All hanging artwork shall be no larger than 6’x6′, including the frame. Sculptures are limited to 7-feet with varying widths accepted.
The exhibit’s goal is to display images that celebrate the 20-year history of the Lightning and the Tampa Bay area. A panel composed of local art community leaders from Tampa Bay area museums will select 41 hanging pieces and four sculptures to be displayed in the Times Forum, on the interior walls of the Suite Level. The panel will score each submission from one to 100 on visual and conceptual impact. The top three ranked artwork pieces as scored by the judges will receive cash prizes of $1,500, $1,000 and $500. Honorable mentions ranked in the top-10 will also receive $250 each. All artists will be invited to a reception this Fall at the unveiling of the artwork pieces.
The Lightning are committed to leading by example and inspiring others to give in all sorts of ways. They have contributed through the Community Heroes program, as well as the C.H.A.R.G.E. volunteer program, $2.5 million in cash awards and more than 4,000 volunteer hours during the 2011-12 season. In addition to continuing the Hero and C.H.A.R.G.E. programs for the 2012-13 season, the Lightning are also excited to celebrate and create awareness of Tampa Bay’s art community through the exhibition of approximately 45 locally-crafted pieces to be on display.
