Quick Strikes: Anton Stralman to play for Sweden at IIHF World Championship

The Bolts

It looks like the SweDefense will be reunited at this year’s IIHF World Championship as Anton Stralman joins Victor Hedman on Sweden’s roster. [Swedish Ice Hockey Association, article in Swedish]

Vinik continues his quest to be one of the most powerful (and beloved) residents of Tampa. “USF Athletics announced a 10-year multimedia partnership with Tampa Bay Entertainment Properties today, guaranteeing the Bulls at least $29 million in revenue through the end of the term. Tampa Bay Entertainment Properties is a new venture controlled by Jeff Vinik, owner of both the Tampa Bay Lightning and Strategic Property Partners, creators of the re-development of Downtown Tampa.” [The Daily Stampede]

The captain of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s ECHL affiliate landed himself in trouble. “On Monday, the ECHL announced that Kalamazoo Wings captain Ben Wilson would be suspended indefinitely and fined an undisclosed amount for his repeated cross checks of Toledo defender Simon Denis. Wilson was assessed a five-minute roughing, a five-minute cross-checking and a game misconduct for his actions which gained nationwide attention. [Raw Charge]

Just how lucky is the Tampa Bay Lightning to have Kucherov? “As we all know, with their second choice in the draft, the Bolts selected Nikita Kucherov at pick number 58. Looking back, the fact that Kucherov slipped all the way to number 58 solely due to the ‘Russian Factor’ is baffling.” [Raw Charge]

The Prospects

Syracuse Crunch playoffs start on Friday against the St. John Ice Caps. [Raw Charge]

Syracuse Crunch Left Winger John Kurtz: Everyone in our locker room is a phenomenal hockey player. We’re a very deep team right now which is huge in the playoffs because guys go down. It’s a rough game.

I think we got guys that can step in and fill any role needed. I think we’re lucky to have that. I don’t think many teams have that many players with that kind of skill level at their disposal.

Anthony Cirelli reflects on his journey from being undrafted in the Ontario Hockey League to becoming one of the league’s best forwards. “Cirelli, who claimed silver with Canada at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, has developed a reputation as one of the league’s most responsible two-way centremen, a player whose speed and intelligence on both sides of the puck sets him apart from the competition. ‘It sucks not being drafted, I’ve been there,’ he continued. ‘Maybe you had an injury that slowed you down, or maybe you didn’t hit your growth spurt yet, but this is another opportunity.'” [OHL]
