Louis Domingue was recalled to the Tampa Bay Lightning on December 30th, 2017. He made his Lightning debut on January 7th against the Detroit Red Wings. He nabbed the victory, recording 34 saves as the Lightning won 5-2. By all accounts, the netminder looked pretty confident with the Bolts and played well, which was a good sign that the gamble Tampa Bay took when they traded for him in November is going to pay off.
As predicted, though, Domingue has only played that one time in that two-and-half-week span. This is a fairly big transition in minutes for a goalie who was eating up game time with AHL Syracuse prior to his recall. Between the trade on 11/14 and his call up, Domingue had played in 13 games with the Crunch, posting a record of 9-4-0. He had a 2.39 goals-against average and .911 save percentage during that span, and was one of the reasons for Syracuse’s big turn around.
With the Lightning on break this week, they took advantage of a rather busy Crunch schedule and reassigned Domingue to Syracuse. This will allow the goalie to get some consistent playtime time, and will also give the current number one in Syracuse, Connor Ingram, time to rest. Ingram has played in every game since Domingue’s recall. By all accounts, this reassignment is only temporary, as regular Bolts’ back up Peter Budaj still has weeks to go in his recovery.
