Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary British rocker, passed away at the age of 76 on Tuesday. Best known for fronting Black Sabbath, Osbourne was also introduced to a new generation of fans through the MTV show, The Osbournes, which followed the War Pigs singer and his family for four seasons.
While he might be known as one of the more famous Aston Villa fans, thanks to Ozzy being Ozzy, he has a tie to the NHL, more specifically, the St. Louis Blues. In 2019, Osbourne posted a photo of himself wearing a Blues jersey prior to their Game 7 victory. On Tuesday, the Blues reposted that photo.
Of course, for many fans, especially those of the older generations, might remember Osbourne rocking a slightly different Blues jersey earlier in his life.
Ozzy Osbourne bought a Blues jersey in St. Louis during the 1984 Bark at the Moon Tour. Days later in Memphis, he was arrested in the jersey while staggering drunkenly on Beale Street. Before he was released, the coolest mugshot in hockey history was taken. RIP.

During the 1980s (and 1990s and 2000s) Ozzy was not a casual drug or alcohol user, he was a super user. Following a concert in Memphis in May of 1984 (with Motley Crue opening) Osbourne was arrested for public intoxication at about 1:00 AM as he was “staggering drunk” on Beale Street (to be honest, who amongst us hasn’t been staggering drunk on Beale Street at one point in our lives?).
Where did he get the sweet v-neck shirsey? That is clouded in mystery, but he had been in St. Louis twice during the tour prior to the arrest. While the Blues played home games on both sides of his February 9th visit to the town, Ozzy wasn’t in town as he had shows on the 7th and 11th of that month. Maybe he just liked the music note on the front of the shirt.
Osbourne was held at the jail for about five hours and released. He continued his tour, playing in Nashville the next night. He would play The Sun Dome in Tampa a few days later (on the same night that B.B. King played at the Jai Alai fronton). Tickets were $12.50.
Hockey News
Lightning prospects in the OHL [CHL]
The Bolts leaned heavily into the OHL in the most recent draft with three of the picks coming from the junior hockey league. All of the players listed should stay in the developmental league, with the exception of Roman Schmidt, who will spend the year in Syracuse.
Kaapo Kakko re-signs for three years [Davy Jones’ Locker Room]
Arbitration avoided! The Seattle Kraken come to an agreement with their 24-year-old forward as he signs a three-year deal with an average annual value of $4.5 million. After struggling to find a role with the New York Rangers, Kakko had a solid season following a trade to Seattle. He put up 30 points in 49 games for the Kraken.
Scheduled arbitration hearings [PuckPedia]
Kakko was scheduled to have his hearing on July 25th, so that likely prompted the two sides to come to an agreement. There are seven players left that have yet to work things out with their teams, and their hearings have been scheduled. Next up is Arvid Soderblom and the Chicago Blackhawks on July 28th. The two sides can negotiate up to the very second they walk into the room with the arbitrator.
NHL, NHLPA, Lega Serie A agree to cross-promotion [NHL]
As the hockey world gears up the NHL’s return to Olympic hockey, the league and the Players’ Association have entered into a deal with Italy’s top soccer (or football for our European readers) league, Lega Serie A to cross-promote both sports. The European Player Media tour will take place in Milan this year on August 22nd, the day before the soccer league kicks off their regular season. Expect hockey players to kick soccer balls and soccer players to try and slap some pucks around.
How about we end this with a visual representation of the Lightning’s road trips next season.
