For hockey fans, the collection of jerseys (sweaters) can be a significant drain on discretionary spending. Of course, you have to own the home and road versions of your favorite team. Then the alternate, when/if those are a thing again. Maybe a throwback or two, to prove that you’ve been at this for a while. Warm-up versions designed to celebrate those serving in the military or to bring awareness to “Hockey Fights Cancer” or to honor a retired player? Sure. Why not? And of course, you want to show some love to the minor league affiliates by wearing their colors too.
After that, maybe one or two from other teams that you might kind of like, if you think they look good. I know a guy who owns a Kansas City Scouts replica. He has no idea who the Kansas City Scouts were, and I hate him for that (among other things), but it’s a sweet jersey.
Then we drill down to favorite players. If you really love these players, you’re going to feel obligated to go out and get versions of their minor league, juniors and international uniforms.
Before you know it, you have spent thousands of dollars on clothing you can never wear to a formal occasion, like, say, your sister’s wedding, for a random example. Unless your sister is exceptionally cool, and even if she is, your mom probably is not. Trust me on this one.
Just when you think you don’t have to make any more room in your closet, the All-Star Game comes to your town and your team’s captain is selected to serve in that capacity for the Atlantic Division. That means you have to decide whether or not you want to go out and buy this:
- PROS:
It’s Steven Stamkos. - It’s blue, like most of your other Lightning stuff.
- “The jersey also features the Sunshine Skyway Bridge on the numbers that are on the back of the jersey and also on the sleeves.” That’s pretty neat.
- It says “Atlantic” on the inside of the neck, so if a Flyers fan ever sneaks up behind you to drop a spider down your shirt, and can read upside down (or at all), they’ll know what division the Lightning are in. /
CONS:
- The Stamkos version is $250.
- The un-numbered, un-lettered version is $189./
