Would you like to know what I find fun about doing these polls? There are a couple of reasons. One, they’re very democratic in that they not only invite audience participation, they’re dependent upon that. Two, the answers are subjective opinions and therefor immune to argument. I mean, you CAN argue with them because if there’s one thing the internet has taught us is that you can argue absolutely anything (hello, Flat Earthers!).
But that’s a pointless exercise because people have opinions on a lot of things based on their feelings and personal preferences and they don’t… and shouldn’t… always have to care what somebody else thinks (maybe not you, Flat Earthers).
This week’s poll is completely subjective and opinion based and it’s about who your favorite lower-profile Lightning player is. As such, certain players are automatically excluded from consideration. Steven Stamkos, Victor Hedman, Andrei Vasilevskiy and Nikita Kucherov are off the ballot. So are Ryan Callahan, Ondrej Palat, Tyler Johnson and Alex Killorn. For that matter, we’re also not including Chris Kunitz, Vladislav Namestnikov, Brayden Point, Anton Stralman, J.T. Brown, Cedric Paquette and Mikhail Sergachev. Sorry, but all of those guys are fairly well-known.
This poll is to celebrate those Lightning players you like that the average jamoke at the mall may have never heard of. And you can like them for whatever reason you like. Their play. Their “grit” (however you define that). Their personality on and/or off the ice. Intangibles. Their number. Where they’re from. Anything. Let’s show some love to the guys whose names don’t show up on the rare occasion when the columnists write about the Lightning.
Pick whomever you want for any reason you choose. You can’t be wrong! Although, it is a poll and someone is going to get more votes than others, so you could potentially be not entirely correct. Feel free to justify your vote in the comments, if you want.
