Tampa Bay Lightning Game 76: at the Columbus Blue Jackets
The Tampa Bay Lightning lost to the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2.
There wasn’t a lot of energy from the Lightning in this game. Mike Lundin had a nice shot, and Vincent Lecavalier had a sweet low-angle power play goal, but that was really about it. However, games between teams from different conferences aren’t typically that exciting, anyways, unless the teams have a history.
It was a low-shooting game. The final shot tallies were 18 shots for the Lightning and 25 shots for Columbus. The Lightning only had five shots in the third period, but part of that was because of penalty trouble.
Speaking of penalties, it was very strange to see Mattias Ohlund in a fight. I’ve seen him take half-hearted swipes at people, but nothing serious. Not that this was much of a brawl, but it was a lot more than I’d ever seen him do. He did get a fighting major out of it, which hasn’t probably happened too often in his career.
Penalties are what killed them in this game. They were up 2-1 going into the third period when the team ran into penalty troubles. After that, they weren’t able to get much going. It’s hard to shoot and score when you’re a man down and the other team’s in your zone.
The next game is tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Game time is 7:30 pm Eastern. Come join us on the game thread.
