Tampa Bay Lightning prospect report: Sammy Walker’s season is over, MacLeod moves on

As the prospects playoffs begin and end, we look at one of the top performers. Sammy Walker and Edina High School lost the Minnesota high school hockey tournament, eliminated in a rare blowout.

John MacLeod and the Boston Terriers have moved on, however, prepping to face off against Boston College on Friday night in the HOckey East semi-finals.

The CHL kids are entering the final week of regular season play as well. It’s the best time of the year.

Ontario Hockey League

March 8th: vs Mississauga Steelheads
L 8-7 – No Points
March 10th: @ Barrie Colts
L 6-4 – Did Not Play
March 11th: @ Sudbury Wolves
L 4-0 – Did Not Play

Paquette didn’t finish the weekend, but the Petes set a franchise record of 20 straight road losses!

Let’s not talk about this season anymore.

#12 – Boris Katchouk (F) / #14 Taylor Raddysh (F)
2G, 3A, +4 / 0G, 3A, -4
xyz – Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds
1st overall in OHL, 1st in Western Conference, 19 points ahead of 2nd

March 8th: @ Windsor Spitfires
L 3-2 – 0G, 1A, +1 / 0G, 1A, -1

W 4-3 – 2G, 0A, +2 / No Points

March 11th: @ Owen Sound Attack
L 6-5 SO – 0G, 2A, +1 / 0G, 2A, -3

The Greyhounds are marching towards playoff dominance, and Katchouk/Raddysh aren’t slowing down either.

#17 – Alexei Lipanov (F) – 1G, 1A, +1
Sudbury Wolves – 17-39-9-0
Eliminated from OHL playoffs

March 8th: @ North Bay Battalion
W 4-2 – No Points
March 9th: vs North Bay Battalion
L 4-1 – 1G, 0A
March 11th: vs Peterborough Petes
W 4-0 – 0G, 1A, +1

The Wolves will draft 1st overall this summer and that’s the best we can say.

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

#89 – Otto Somppi (F) – 0G, 0A, +1
x – Halifax Mooseheads – 41-17-6-1
4th overall in QMJHL, 3 points ahead of 5th

March 6th: @ Rimouski Oceanic
W 3-1 – 0G, 0A, +1
March 10th: @ Acadie-Bathurst Titan
L 3-2 – No Points

A slower week for Somppi as the Mooseheads take a road trip around the Gaspé region and into New Brunswick.

Alex Barré-Boulet (F) – 0G, 4A, -3
xyz – Blainville-Boisbriand Armada – 46-11-4-3
1st overall in QMJHL, 9 points ahead of 2nd

March 7th: vs Drummondville Voltiguers
W 4-3 OT – 0G, 0A, -2
March 9th: vs Sherbrooke Phoenix
W 4-3 – 0G, 4A

March 11th: @ Victoriaville Tigres
L 7-1 – 0G, 0A, -1

The Armada and our newest baby Bolt are locked into first overall and are looking at a sweep in the first round. Since the Q moved to seeding 1-16 for the playoffs, the 16th seed has never won a game.

Western Hockey League

#76 – Oleg Susonov (D) – 0G, 1A, +1
x – Moose Jaw Warriors – 51-15-1-2
1st in East Division, 5 points ahead of 2nd

March 7th: vs Lethbridge Hurricanes

March 10th: vs Swift Current Boncos
W 4-2 – 0G, 1A, +1
March 11th: vs Brandon Wheat Kings
W 5-3 – 0G, 0A, -1

Susonov has a hard road ahead, with the Broncos looking as the second round opponent. If the Warriors can survive that, it’s easy riding to the finals.

#25 – Cal Foote (D) – 0G, 2A, +1
x – Kelowna Rockets 40-22-5-2

March 7th: vs Vancouver Giants
L 4-3 OT – 0G, 1A, -1
March 9th: @ Kamloops Blazers
W 4-2 – 0G, 1A, +1
March 10th: vs Kamloops Blazers
W 4-0 – 0G, 0A, +2

Foote wasn’t the offensive star this week, but the Rockets still took five of six points.

USHL

#19 – Cole Guttman (F)
Dubuque Fighting Saints

Guttman is on IR for the foreseeable future.

#14 – Nicklaus Perbix (D) – 2G, 0A, -3
Omaha Lancers

March 9th: vs Chicago Steel
L 2-1 – 1G, 0A, -2
March 10th: @ Lincoln Stars
L 4-2 – 1G, 0A, -1

Perbix was the big scorer for the Lancers this weekend, but when you rely on your D for the offense you won’t win.

High School

#26 – Samuel Walker – 1G, 5A
Edina High School

March 9th: vs Lakeville North
W 7-1 – 1G, 4A
March 9th: vs Duluth East
L 4-2 – 0G, 1A

Sammy Walkers season ended with a loss in the Minnesota high school tournament, but he had an incredible post draft season, scoring 110 points in 66 games across three leagues.

NCAA

U. Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks
Eliminated in first round

March 9th: @ North Dakota
L 4-0 – Did Not Play
March 10th: @ North Dakota

It was a tough season for Oldham, playing behind Evan Weninger all season. Hopefully he can get in more games next season so we can see what he’s capable of.

Defeated Connecticut 2-0 in Hockey East playoffs

March 9th: vs Connecticut
W 5-4 – 0G, 0A, +2
