Lost in all of the trade deadline drama was the news that Syracuse Crunch forward Max Groshev was suspended for 10 games by the league. The announcement cited an incident during the Crunch’s March 1st game against Rochester in which Groshev was found to have used “racially insensitive language directed at an opponent.”

No further detail about the incident was released and Groshev had already served one game of the suspension prior to the announcement, a 5-4 loss to Utica. He’ll be eligible to return to action on March 30th. That game happens to be against the Americans in Rochester which makes for an interesting decision for the Crunch’s coaching staff. Do they allow him to play knowing that there is likely to be some altercation, or do they hold him out as a precaution. It is the last regularly scheduled meeting of the season for the two teams.

On the season Groshev, who was ranked 10th in the most recent Top 25 Under 25, has 5 goals and 6 assist in 46 games while playing a bottom-six role with the Crunch. Those numbers are trending down from his rookie season where he posted 10 goals and 20 assists.
