Quick Strikes: Syracuse Crunch advance to second round

IThe Bolts

For the first time since 2013, the Tampa Bay Lightning will participate in the NHL Draft Lottery, which takes place tonight in Toronto. “By finishing 15th, the Lightning have five possible draft positions. By far the most likely is the 15th slot — they have a 91% chance of being there. But that’s boring, so let’s talk about the other possibilities.” [Raw Charge]

After giving a generous donation at the Bolts Better Halves Fashion Show, a few Lightning Fans won a trip to Top Golf with Tyler Johnson and Ondrej Palat.

The Worlds

With nine members of the Tampa Bay Lightning participating across three teams at the IIHF World Championship, we’ll be keeping a close eye on Canada (Jon Cooper, Alex Killorn, and Brayden Point), Russia (Nikita Kucherov, Vladislav Namestnikov, Andrei Vasilevskiy, and prospect Nikita Gusev) and Sweden (Victor Hedman and Anton Stralman).

Point will be writing journal entries to catalog his experience with Team Canada. “I’m ready to go. This should be a good tournament, and it’ll be good to see some friends I’ve met through Hockey Canada, see Killer and Coop again. To have that familiarity with the guys is a great thing and having it with the coaches just kind of makes you feel a little more comfortable.” [Tampa Bay Lightning]

Russia will face Finland in a pretournament game at 7:00 AM EST.

Sweden will take on the Czech Republic in a pretournament match-up at 10:35 AM EST.

The Syracuse Crunch defeated the St. John’s IceCaps 2-1 in OT, with former IceCaps captain Gabriel Dumont scoring the deciding goal. “It’s playoff hockey and it’s a close game,” McKenna said when questioned about the contest. “It’s tough to describe, I’m just really happy to be a part of this team right now.” [Raw Charge]

“Under Yzerman, the Lightning have not been afraid to lean OHL-heavy when it comes to building their team. This year they will have a number of options if they want to go the same route with their second round picks.” [Raw Charge]

Anthony Cirelli (#22 in yellow) picked up an assist, Taylor Raddysh (#17) scored a goal, and Erik Cernak (#14) got an assist as the Erie Otters defeated the Owen Sound 4-2. Erie leads the series 3-2.

Mathieu Joseph and Bokondji Imama were both held off the score sheet as their Saint John Sea Dogs defeated the Chicoutimi Saguenéens 4-0. Saint John leads the series 3-2.

With the Peterborough Petes officially eliminated from the playoffs, how did their Lightning prospects (Christopher Paquette and Matt Spencer) perform? [Raw Charge]
