The Tampa Bay Lightning announced that Dyllan Gill, a right-shot defender playing with the Syracuse Crunch, was reassigned to the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL. The 20-year-old has recorded 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists) in 24 games with the Crunch this year, his first in professional hockey.
Astute followers of Lightning prospects will note that during his previous sojourn in the QMJHL, Gill had played for a different team, the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, where he was their captain during an injury-plagued 2023-24 season. The defenseman appeared in only 12 games before a shoulder injury shelved him for the season. However, he won’t be returning to his old haunts as they traded his rights to Moncton on Monday, which was the league’s trade deadline.

The Huskies picked up quite a haul for someone who hadn’t logged a game for them this season as Moncton sent them prospect Niko El Khouri, a 2027 second-round pick, a 2027 third-round pick, a 2025 fourth-round pick, and a 2025 fifth-round pick. El Khouri is a 16-year-old left-winger currently playing in the Quebec AAA league with 37 points in 27 games. Rouyn-Noranda added to their future assets without subtracting from their current roster, which is unusual for a team that is in contention for a league championship.
Gill, who was our 22nd-ranked prospect under 25 this summer, got off to a bang with two goals in his first game and added an assist in his third game, logged just one assist over his next 21 outings After being in and out of the line-up in December, Gill had appeared in all three Syracuse games this month. However, with their veteran defenders like Max Crozier returning from injury, his playing time would likely decrease, so the organization reassigned him to juniors to continue his development.
