Tampa Bay Lightning trade back with New York Islanders

The Tampa Bay Lightning trade their second 1st round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft (the one acquired from the New York Rangers in the Martin St. Louis trade) for the 35th and 57th overall picks, ending Day 1 for the Bolts.

It’s possible the Bolts had their sights set on a forward taken just before the 28th pick — David Pastrnak or Nikita Scherbak, perhaps — and felt better trading back for two more top-60 picks instead of taking a forward they liked less.

The Bolts had previously traded their own 2nd round pick (50th overall) in the Jason Garrison deal.

The New York Islanders selected Josh Ho-Sang with the pick obtained from the Lightning.
