While the Lightning managed to pull out a win in overtime versus the Florida Panthers in their last game, there were still some lingering questions left over.
One was whether or not Radko Gudas would be suspended for his mid-ice hit on Scottie Upshall. It turns out that the NHL's Department of Player Safety was feeling generous. They instead chose to give him a warning rather than suspend him.
Another question about the defense is Eric Brewer being sat out. He reportedly was not very happy about not playing in the season opener, and as of the time of this writing, it looks like he probably won't be playing in Game 2. There have been rumors that general manager Steve Yzerman is shopping Brewer, which may explain why he's not playing.
After a strong first period, the Lightning had a series of defensive breakdowns that allowed the Panthers to stay in the game. The Lightning may try to play a tighter defensive game than they did in the season opener. They worked on special teams yesterday, however, so we'll see if that's what develops.
Head coach Jon Cooper told reporters after today's morning skate that the lineup would stay the same from the previous game. So the expected scratches are defensemen Mark Barberio and Eric Brewer, as well as injured forward Jonathan Drouin. Drouin is expected to join the lineup sometime next week.
