The goal of the year? Stamkos — seen!

Last night’s Lightning / Ducks game was not televised in the Tampa Bay market… And that little crime robbed the fans of seeing one of the most excellent goals of the past year…

Steven Stamkos put on a show, and the fans back home (without Center Ice or without Gamecast) missed out on seeing it live as it happened…

That is just freaking amazing.

Lucky?  Yes, all goals are lucky from one extent to another no matter who scores them or how.  It also takes skill — which is easy to dismiss because of how simple players make these things look.

It’s skill some of us can only dream of, and it’s skill some of us have taken for granted…

Then factor in this is a 19 year old who pulled it off and it seems even more amazing…  Batting the puck in while sliding on the ice?  Pardon the baseball analogy, but he turns what looks like a bunt single into a home run.

Lucky?  Undoubtedly.  Thrilling?  Absolutely.

We’re all seeing Stamkos…  And we’ll be seeing a lot more of him as time goes by.  14 goals so far this season, and so many more seasons yet to come.  Team Canada may also come calling for a spot on the 2010 Olympic team.  We’ll find out soon enough…
