Three years ago on Raw Charge: Officiating sucks

(Editor’s Note: Taking a cue from Rays Index, we hope to start posting articles from time to time referencing old stories on the site and with the Tampa Bay Lightning)

Club Two-Minutes: Bad Calls and Zero Accountability

Two specific monstrosities of officiating are cited – games affecting the Calgary Flames and Tampa Bay Lightning — with one unifying theme behind them: the blessings of (then) head referee Stephen Walkom.

Three years later, nothing has changed and could even be seen as worse with inconsistent calls left and right, and complacent blessings from league administrators.

The game is fast. Referees and linemen have to make snap judgments… But brushing off botched calls, obvious referee errors, and inconsistent rule enforcement does nothing for the sport and doesn’t sow trust for anyone watching or involved with the game.

Club Two-Minutes remains the most exclusive club in pro sports – where officiating cannot be questioned, while league executives turn a blind eye to the problem.
