Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning game day preview

WHERE: St. Pete Times Forum, Tampa, Florida
WHEN: 7:30 PM EST
MEDIA: 620 WDAE (radio)
OPPONENT COVERAGE: Pension Plan Puppets

Say what you will about Maple Leafs fans, I can say with good authority that Chemmy, PPP, and the rest of the Pension Plan Puppets crew are some of the funniest people I know….

And they have waited and longed to take their shots at tonights Lightning starting goaltender, Dan Ellis. That’s with thanks to Ellis’ Twitter antics from this summer.

And of course, now that the stars have aligned in just the right way, Pension Plan Puppets lobs one at the Bolts and Ellis.

Dominic Moore is back, Matt Smaby will be scratched and Steve Downie plans to play tonight in this non-televised contest at Times Palace. Victor Hedman is also going to be in while continuing to mend from a foot injury suffered during the west-coast spin of recent..

Meanwhile, Simon Gagne (who has missed the past seven games) has had nerve tests today (as reported by the St. Pete Times). The team is not sure what is wrong — nor are the doctors. He has no concussion, they are certain of this… But Gagne is not at a point where he has resumed skating. At current he is only riding a stationary bike.

By the way, tonight is Military Tribute Night at the Forum,  Clark has the details over at SB Nation Tampa Bay about what will be going on in and around the arena to coincide the event .

The Lightning power play has dropped to 8th in the NHL over the past few days.  The team has converted 22.8% of opportunities with the man advantage.  The Leafs, on the other hand, are 20th in the league on the power play with just over a 13% conversion rate.  On the penalty kill, the Leafs are not faring much better.  They’re ranked 21st in the league with a 79.6 kill rate.  The Bolts, despite their west coast losses, are 3rd in the NHL with an 89.9 kill rate.

Again, as I mentioned above, no local TV coverage for tonight’s game.  You can find the radio broadcast at 620 WDAE.
