2013 Tampa Bay Lightning season preview part 2: The “In”s and “Out”s of the Tampa Bay Lightning roster

Here’s hoping you didn’t end up here after a search for one of those stupid, arbitrary list of trends that magazines like “Us” and “In Touch” put out at the start of every new year. If it were, the list would consist of exactly two items:

IN: Playing hockey OUT: Not playing hockey

No, instead what you have here is a brief guide to the Tampa Bay Lightning players that have departed and arrived since the last time the team appeared on the ice, way back in April of 2012.

IN – Forwards:

IN – Defensemen

  • Matt Carle – Signed as a free agent to a 6-year contract on July 4, 2012.
  • Sami Salo – Signed as a free agent to a 2-year contract on July 1, 2012.

IN – Goaltender

  • Anders Lindback – Acquired via trade with forward Kyle Wilson and a 7th round draft pick (used to select goaltender Sergei Kostenko) from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Sebastien Caron. two 2nd round draft picks (used to select lefty wing Pontus Aberg and center Colton Sissons) and a 3rd round pick in the 2013 draft.

OUT – Forwards

  • Ryan Shannon – Signed as a free agent (3-year contract) with ZSC Lions of the Swiss-A league. He has 29 points in 36 games so far with the clu this season.
  • Tim Wallace – Signed as a free agent (1-year contract) with the Carolina Hurricanes.

OUT – Defensemen

OUT – Goaltenders

  • Sebastien Caron – Traded with two 2nd round draft picks (used to select lefty wing Pontus Aberg and center Colton Sissons) and a 3rd round pick in the 2013 draft to the Nashville Predators in exchange for goaltender Anders Lindback and a 7th round draft pick (used to select goaltender Sergei Kostenko). Returned to Iserlohn Roosters, who he had been with when the Lightning signed him last spring.
  • Dwayne RolosonNot offered a contract by the Lightning. Currently unsigned, unrestricted free agent. Joined Mass-Lowell as a coach during the lockout.
