91 Days of Stamkos: Day 34, NOT looking the part

As mentioned previously in these parts, Steven Stamkos sets a high bar for fashion when he’s out in public.  There are times, and we have evidence thanks to social media, that he just doesn’t quite hit his normal level of appreciation for haute couture.

Yes, teammate and friend Ben Bishop threw his captain under the bus to plug a line of shirts. The grey t-shirt on grey dress pants look is impossible to pull off for any guy and the backwards hat doesn’t help sell it either.

Of course, the real winner of this photo is Ryan Callahan. His disgust at either Stamkos’ momentary lack of fashion sense or the fact that a center is shilling for a goaltender is apparent by the look on his face.

The game referenced in the Tweet was from March 19th, 2016, a 2-0 shutout over the Arizona Coyotes.  Bishop made 32 saves in picking up his 5th shutout of the season. It was also his 15th career shutout, which moved him into the all-time franchise lead. Perhaps that’s why Stamkos had to don the shirt for the ride home?

For his part, Stamkos added an assist on Nikita Kucherov’s empty net goal and Ryan Callahan was scratched with a “lower body injury”. Little did we know at the time how bad that injury would become.

In case you are wondering, yes the Bishop shirt is still available on-line for a cool $27.
