Game 29: Tampa Bay Lightning at Edmonton Oilers

The Tampa Bay Lightning lost to the Edmonton Oilers in a shootout by a score of 4-3.

This was sort of an odd game. The top line didn't really do all that much, despite Steven Stamkos scoring a goal. Through regulation, Martin St. Louis didn't have a shot on goal while Stamkos only had two.

The Lightning were carried by the other lines in the game, led mostly by Ryan Malone and Adam Hall. Hall had five shots on goal in regulation, while Malone had a goal and four hits. Those two guys were everywhere, it seemed.

The defense had its problems, however. There were some serious breakdowns in the second period which all Edmonton to get back into the game. Up until the second, the Lightning had the game fairly well under control. Mattias Ohlund had a good game, I thought, despite the rest of the defense not looking that great.

Dan Ellis had a strong game...up until the shootout, that is. He looked very good for much of the game. But then he obviously was not mentally prepared for a shootout. He looked unsure of what to do on a couple of those shot that went in.

The next game is tonight in Vancouver. Game time is 10:30 pm Eastern. The Raw Charge game thread opens up at 10 pm.

For those that are interested, the Vancouver Canucks are retiring former captain Markus Naslund's number tonight before the game, and that will be broadcast live online at However, due to the fact that it's in another country, it may not be available to people outside of Canada. But, you won't know unless you try. The live streaming of Markus Naslund's number retirement ceremony is scheduled to start at 9:10 pm Eastern, as per the Vancouver Canucks website.
