Lecavalier hosts 2nd annual “Cut for a Cure” event

Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vincent Lecavalier, along with teammates Marc-Andre Bergeron, Brett Connolly, Bruno Gervais, Teddy Purcell and Tom Pyatt all had their heads shaved as part of “Tampa Bay’s Cut for a Cure” event in Tampa Friday night.

Lightning players, joined by Tampa Bay area business leaders as well as several members of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays organizations, shaved their heads to help bring attention to and raise funds for pediatric cancer research. As of this afternoon, the event, presented by The Vinny Lecavalier Foundation, has raised nearly $250 thousand.

“This is my community. Tampa is my home now and giving back is part of being part of a community. It’s always a good feeling to help people in need and these kids have fought some tough battles. When you think of it that way, it’s not difficult at all to come out and do something like this for them.” – Lecavalier

“Well, everyone supports us and you get a sense for that obviously at the games. But when you get off the ice, it’s good to give back and these are the people who support us through the good times and the bad times. But at the end of the day, these are kids that are fighting day in and day out for their lives. So any chance we have to see these kids and hang out with them is special for us.” – Teddy Purcell

Fans wanting to show support for the players or any other participants can text “Cut” to 50555 to make a $10 donation or visit www.pcfcutforacure.org. Fundraising continues through May 4.
