Lightning announce 2016 prospect training camp / tournament roster

After the Tampa Bay Lightning announced plans for their 2016 prospect training camp and tournament in South Florida for the middle of September (which became public news on August 16), the Bolts have stepped up and announced the participants on their end.

The 24-man roster was revealed on Wednesday with 7 selections from the 2016 and 2015 NHL draft classes to participate with seven other former draft selections, dating as far back as 2011 (goalie Adam Wilcox).

Two defensemen, Jordan Murray from the University of New Brunswick and David Henley who played with Val-d’Orr of the QMJHL, were invited to participate in the camp.

There’s no telling which of these prospects will be invited to the Bolts main training camp… But it is a possibility (as it is with any training camp) someone might surprise enough to draw interest from the NHL club. Knowing how Tampa Bay has operated in recent years, it’s the Syracuse Crunch franchise and fans who should invest the most interest in the participants… Most of the players are destined to be part of the club at one point or another in the future.

LIGHTNING ANNOUNCE 24-MAN ROSTER FOR 2016 PROSPECT TOURNAMENT

Games To Be Played September 17-20 at the Panthers IceDen in Coral Springs

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning today announced the 24-man roster that will represent the team at the 2016 Prospect Tournament, which will be held at the Panthers IceDen in Coral Springs, Florida from September 17-20. The Lightning squad is also scheduled to practice at AMALIE Arena on September 15 (1 p.m.) and 16 (11 a.m.) before heading to Coral Springs. Practice times are subject to change.

The Lightning team consists of all organizational draft picks with the exception of three players, Daniel Walcott, who was acquired from the New York Rangers via trade, as well as two invitees. Of those drafted by Tampa Bay, eight of them were selected in the second round, while one was selected in the first. Overall, 14 of the 24 players on the roster were picked in the 2015 or 2016 drafts.

Of the 10 draft picks made in 2016, seven will be part of the tournament, including first-round pick Brett Howden, and fellow forwards Boris Katchouk, Christopher Paquette, Taylor Raddysh and Otto Somppi, as well as defenseman Libor Hajek and goaltender Conner Ingram.

The Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators and Washington Capitals will also be icing teams in the tournament.
