Lightning Round: Big Contracts for Young Players

The Ottawa Senators announced that they have signed their top young defender, Jake Sanderson, to an eight year contract. The goal with all their long contracts for young players is they provide surplus value in a few years.

Meanwhile, expected Norris contender Rasmus Dahlin, is expected to get nearly $11 million in Buffalo on an eight year deal on a deal starting next summer. For reference, Mikhail Sergachev only two years older than Dahlin and makes $8.5 million for eight years starting this year.

Michael Del Zotto retires from the NHL. He never played for the Lightning and spent the last two seasons in the AHL.

Former Syracuse Crunch defender, Ryan Jones, has signed an AHL contract with the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Jones played 137 games over two seasons with the Crunch.

The Penguins have hired former Sharks GM Doug Wilson in an executive position.

Bill Armstrong got an extension with the Arizona Coyotes after a big offseason for the team.

The Canucks, as always, made a gaff in their email blast, forgetting to name their new VP of communications in the press release for that hire!
