Lightning Round: Dave Randorf named new Tampa Bay Lightning play-by-play announcer

As the Tampa Bay Lightning announced yesterday, Dave Randorf has been hired as the new play-by-play voice on FOX Sports Sun, replacing Rick Peckham, who retired after being an announcer for the last 24 years. Dave Randorf will join the FOX Sports Sun broadcasting team, which includes such names Brian Engblom, Paul Kennedy, Dave Andreychuk, Bobby Taylor and Adam Hall.

Randorf, 53, has over 30 years of broadcasting experience, most recently he worked at Canada’s Sportsnet network, serving as a play-by-play announcer for Hockey Night in Canada, Wednesday Night Hockey, Rogers Hometown Hockey and the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He also served as the play-by-play announcer for the Western Conference Final during the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs and announced the 2015 and 2016 NHL All-Star Game.

Before working for Sportsnet, Randorf spent 19 years at TSN – another big Canadian sports network. During his stint at TSN, Randorf served as a studio host for CFL, several Olympic games and play-by-play voice of the Montreal Canadiens for TSN from 2010-2014. As the people on twitter noticed, he even worked roller hockey international broadcasts in the early years of his career.

On his twitter, Randorf left a short message for the Lightning fans and thanked his Canadian  followers for their support.

According to the Lightning beat writer Joe Smith, Dave Randorf got an endorsement from Rick Peckham, after their conversation yesterday.

As it was announced last summer, Rick Peckham will receive the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for his outstanding contributions as a hockey broadcaster.

One of the biggest focuses so far in camp has been in regards to the revamped power play that will be missing Nikita Kucherov. Having a wealth of offensive talent really helps in this case. The first unit power play ran through Kucherov in the right circle last year because of his ability to make the proper reads. With the puck on his stick he had plenty of options – shoot, pass it to Brayden Point in the slot, back to the point, or over to Steven Stamkos if the lane was open. More times than not he made the right choice.

The Lightning shared the 12th episode of their Recharge videos, offering their fans to relive the Stanley Cup Final against the Dallas Stars.

The Syracuse Crunch owner Howard Dolgon hosted a fan forum yesterday, sharing details on the upcoming AHL season.

Dolgon confirmed a 32-game schedule and that around 7-10 players from the Florida Panthers are expected to join the team for this season. More details in the thread below:
