Lightning Round: Only One RFA Goalie Left

One net on outdoor ice

Erik Gustavsson and the Minnesota Wild have agreed on a three-year contract extension worth $3.75 million per year. Gustavsson surprised the league, finishing second in save percentage with a .931 in 39 games. With this signing, only Boston’s Jeremy Swayman is left without a contract among the RFA goalies. Gustavsson will be making a shade more than Ilya Samsonov, who was also an RFA this summer with Toronto, and more still than New Jersey’s Vitek Vanecek from a summer ago. It would be a surprise if Swayman wasn’t also this range. With all the talent leaving Boston this summer, the Bruins have ~$5.5 million to sign him and depth forward Trent Frederic.

“I think that’s just a cop out for people when they say, ‘Well, he’s just gifted,'” said Oates. “Michael Jordan was not just gifted. Please don’t minimize the effort, intelligence, and work ethic of Nikita Kucherov. Please. I think that’s a cop out for people.” Nikita Kucherov and Adam Oates spend all summer on the south rink at the TGH Ice Plex. Chris Krenn spoke to both of them in this summer interview.

Stanley Cup Champion for the St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning, Pat Maroon, was welcomed warmly in St. Louis at the baseball game.

Bolts doggo, Stella, was working at the hospital yesterday!

I mean, Point (Barbie) and Kucherov (Oppenheimer) with Hagel as Ken was right there. They can even cast Stammer in RDJ’s role! Have I thought about this too much? Absolutely not.

This was an excellent article where Dom acknowledges a poor, injury-riddled season from Hedman made him look worse on the model than he should be able to produce next season.
