Lightning Round: See the Tampa Bay Lightning etched on the Stanley Cup

The Tampa Bay Lightning officially have their names on the Stanley Cup! Fifty-two names from the 2019-20 Lightning are now the latest to be added to the Cup!

There are 27 players from the team on the Cup. All 25 who played games during the playoffs, plus Curtis McElhinney and Mathieu Joseph. McElhinney was on the bench throughout the run, and Joseph got to skate in a warm-up during the Finals. Scott Wedgewood was, unfortunately, the only player from the playoff bubble that didn’t get his name on the Cup. He was the third goalie and didn’t dress for a game.

Blake Coleman, Mikhail Sergachev, and Tyler Johnson all shared pictures with the Cup. Sergachev said, “Love you boys. The best day in my life!” And Johnson asked, “Is there anything more beautiful?”

2020 Lightning draft prospect Maxim Groshev (third round) has been moved from Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk to SKA St. Petersburg within the KHL. The 18-year-old winger in an interview said that he was looking for a better prospect pipeline to aid in his development. He was getting very few minutes in the KHL with Neftekhimik and wasn’t on a competitive enough MHL (Russian jr) team. SKA has a well-funded junior program and should provide him more ability to grow.

Pat Maroon got married!

Mitchell Miller might join Groshev in the MHL with SKA St. Petersburg. Miller will likely forego his University of North Dakota education where he  might have gotten the help and support to become a better person. He was taken off their men’s team but there has been no indication he has been barred from the school. Instead, it looks like he’s going to head to Russia to just play hockey.

Both the Arizona Coyotes and UND have washed their hands of helping Isaiah Meyer-Crothers, and Miller is no longer going to take the off-ice help UND provided. Neither young person gets help after all this pain. Worst of both worlds.
