Lightning Round: Tatar signs, Erne finds a tryout, Wright avoids OHL

Tanner Jeannot spoke with Chris Krenn about his arrival to Tampa Bay, how his injury knocked him out of being a useful player in the playoffs, and what he hopes a full training camp will do for him this season.

Tomas Tatar signed a one year, $1.5 million contract with the Colorado Avalanche.

Former Bolt, Adam Erne, signed a PTO with the Edmonton Oilers.

Shane Wright will be given permission to play in the AHL this season if he can’t make the NHL squad out of camp. Wright and the Kraken were in a bad spot last year as the fourth overall pick was far too good for junior hockey, but couldn’t get enough ice time or quite keep up with the competitive Kraken team. When he got a conditioning stint in Coachella Valley, he looked comfortable and challenged.

This makes me want the NHL, AHL, and CHL adopt a rule where one teenage prospect in each organization can play in the AHL. It might be a rare occurrence, but it’s the best place for some prospects.

NHL vice boss said the league is willing to expand into Atlanta again. They’re optimistic a franchise with stable ownership would flourish when before it failed. Coyotes to Atlanta? Or something even more hilarious: Winnipeg back to Atlanta!

The NHL Network is going to follow the LA Kings to Australia for their training camp and global series, and are planning to release a documentary about it.

I don’t really want to talk about this, mostly because I think everyone involved in this story has ulterior motives to hide and whatnot. Basically, the barstool podcast (of former players who publicly hate Mike Babcock) said the CBJ coach forced players to show him pictures on their phones and put them up on his TV. Babcock and Boone Jenner (the player who was mentioned) put out a statement saying he asked to see wedding pictures and pictures of the family over the summer.

I don’t know if one side is grossly exaggerating or if the other is hiding something, or both, to be honest. The podcast usually throw out rumors that aren’t verified for attention and to rip on people they don’t like. Babcock is infamously a man who used his power to put down his players and control them (like his pupil, Bill Peters). Jenner’s voice might be the only “honest” voice in the room, and I wouldn’t be shocked if Babcock and the team forced him to cover up a scandal for a coach that just signed for a long time at a lot of money.

It’s all shadey and gross and exactly what I hate about sports. I don’t see a single good actor here, and I’m glad the NHLPA is investigating this and can find the truth. That truth getting cleared up publicly is another story, especially if it doesn’t make Babcock look good. Anyway, burn this whole story down. I’m so sick of stuff like this in my sport.
