Norfolk Admirals, NHL Playoffs open forum: Getting down to business

Things are getting real in the playoffs, both for the NHL and the AHL. We had our first sweep of the year yesterday, with the Los Angeles Kings eliminating the St. Louis Blues. I don’t recall seeing a single prediction of that. It must have been the reflected glory from the @LAKings twitter feed (which has been awesome.)

Three games tonight:

  • Your Norfolk Admirals go into Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals with a 2-1 series lead over the Connecticut Whale. It’s been a (surprisingly?) chippy series, but very entertaining. Last night the Ads allowed the Whale to dominate for the first half of the game before getting on track and putting up three goals in the second period. Goaltender Dustin Tokarski deserves tons of credit for keeping the game within reach the first period, and forward Alex Killorn has been a standout this series. No word yet on starters. Radio: 1021thegame.com Online video: AHL Live. Game starts at 7:00pm ET.
  • The New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals are all tied up in their series. The big story here ought to have been the goaltending, although there has also been a lot of talk about Alex Ovechkin’s ice time. A lot of talk. A sickeningly large amount of talk. Can’t we just talk about Henrik Lundqvist’s dreamy eyes? Game is at 7:30pm ET on NBCSN. Let’s hope it doesn’t go into quadruple overtime, because we’ve also got …
  • …the Nashville Predators at the Phoenix Coyotes at 10:00pm ET on the same channel. The Predators are facing elimination tonight and in every game for however long this series continues. They’ve got a lot to overcome, including Mike Smith’s .936 save percentage and The Great Curfew Incident, but the ‘Yotes may have a slightly full plate of their own with news on the ownership front and the loss of Rostislav Klesla to a one-game suspension.
