Norfolk Admirals, Rangers-Capitals Open Thread

Last night the Philadelphia Flyers became the latest victim of the 2012 playoffs curse, in which every team that was “supposed to” win hasn’t. The higher seed has lost in 4 of the 8 first round series and 2 of the 4 second round series. Consider, too, that conventional wisdom told us that Nashville and Chicago were both supposed to be better than Phoenix even though Phoenix was technically a higher seed.

  • The Admirals play the Connecticut Whale tonight in Game 5. The series is tied 2-2. Each team has won one close game and one 4-1 game. I have no way to predict tonight’s matchup, either in style or in outcome. All I know is that the Ads need to stay out of the box while capitalizing on their power play chances for a change. Just play your game, boys. Fast and aggressive. No word yet on the status of Tyler Johnson, though he did skate this morning. It sure seems like this team misses him when he’s out of the lineup. • And then there was one. Series, that is. New York Rangers face the Washington Capitals in DC in the only NHL action left for a few days. They have the opportunity to close it out tonight and send the Caps to summer vacation. (Break the curse, Rangers. Break. The. Curse.) The winner of this series will face the New Jersey Devils in the Eastern Conference Finals. This has been an incredibly tense series, what with all the overtimes and last second heroics and such. The narrative machines have been working hard to create heroes, but they keep changing. I just hope the game lasts long enough for me to catch the end of it. Game starts at 7:30pm ET on NHLN.
