Quick Strikes for Friday, October 9

  • Jason Garrison gets his name in the history books for scoring the NHL’s first ever 3-on-3 overtime game winner. [Sports Talk Florida]
  • No prospects in the lineup for opening night, but still good observations here nonetheless following the 3-2 overtime win over the Philadelphia Flyers. [Bolt Prospects]
  • The Flyers certainly gave the Bolts a game and seem to be, for one night at least, a much improved team under new head coach Dave Hakstol. The Lightning are going to get every team’s best shot this season, so it could end up being even more of a grind than usual. [Broad Street Hockey]
  • The Flyers sent out 33-year old rookie defenseman Evgeny Medvedev against the Lightning on Thursday night and he was quite good. ESPN had a feature on him that also had some quotes from teammate Radko Gudas, who was a healthy scratch in the opener. [ESPN]
