Quick Strikes for Saturday, March 21

  • Get a view of how the Detroit Red Wings felt about last night’s 3-1 loss, view the recap from the other side of the fence. [Winging it in Motown]
  • 2014 NHL draft selection and Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Brayden Point has had himself one hell of a season in juniors – 36 goals and 47 assists in 58 games for the Moose Jaw Warriors – and it’s earned him a top-player vote (in the WHL’s Eastern Conference) from coaches. [The StarPhoenix]
  • Billboards promoting rivalries in hockey isn’t new… the Syracuse Crunch going that far with the Utica Comets is, though. They play them tonight at War Memorial. [Syracuse.com]
  • Friday night at War Memorial was Star Wars night. The Force was with the Crunch as Slater Koekkoek dropped his ammo successfully down the access shaft at the end of the canyon on the Death Sta- oh, the hell with this! They won in overtime; Koekkoek got the game winner in overtime. [Bolt Prospects]
  • During Lightning training camp, defenseman Kodie Curran impressed those watching his effort to earn a contract with the Lightning. That didn’t happen and he was returned to college in Canada. Now with his college career over at the University of Calgary (where he had 8 goals and 16 assists in 23 games), the righty-shooting defenseman has signed a free agent contract with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL. [Hartford Wolf Pack]
  • The ballad of Anders Lindback is a complicated overture. He’s finding statistical success during the Buffalo Sabres tank end-of-season effort. Yet Lindy isn’t going to let this small sample of success (he’s posting a .930 save percentage and a 2.49 GAA in 8 games with Buffalo) take precedence over the entirety of his season. [Buffalo Hockey]
  • That brash young man, P.K. Subban, had his wrist smacked by the Man. [All Habs]
  • Former Canadiens head coach Mario Tremblay has his issues with P.K. Subban as well (and the best way to get him to share is to interrupt him while he’s driving drunk.) [SB Nation]
  • The Most Valuable Player for all 30 NHL teams! It’s six pages long though, and it’s got a debatable choice for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Would you pick Steven Stamkos or Tyler Johnson or perhaps someone else? [Along the Boards]
  • The New York Islanders final season in Nassau Veterans Coliseum has invoked many a reference to the arena’s age ties to professional wrestling in Uniondale… And something special with those ties and wrestling references are planned for the playoffs. [NYI Point Blank]
  • “It’s pretty screwed up in here,” is how one anonymous Toronto Maple Leafs player describes the Leafs locker room. In a related story, it’s gonna get downright hostile to close out the season after these remarks went public. [National Post]
  • Thursday’s sad news about Capgeek founder Matthew Wuest’s passing has led to fans wondering if and where they can donate to a cause? Matthew’s brother posted this on Twitter:

  • That subtle proof NHL hockey is coming to Las Vegas… [Las Vegas Review-Journal]
  • Not hockey news but tied to the property holdings of one Mister Jeff Vinik, the revival of Channelside Bay Plaza… For now. Grander plans for the complex are to be unveiled soon (ETA: May). [TBO.com]
