Quick Strikes for Tuesday, April 21

  • Syracuse Crunch owner Howard Dolgon isn’t happy with how the AHL is treating his team. And for good reason – the schedule for the first round of playoffs isn’t entirely favorable for the Crunch with back-to-back weekday games. Syracuse starts their best-of-five first round series at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday. [Syracuse Post-Standard]
  • So, let me get this straight. If a team fires a coach, general manager, or a president of hockey operations that’s still under contract, and a different team chooses to hire said individual, then the hiring team may compensate that person’s former team…with draft picks? Wait. What? [ESPN]
  • Is it just me, or does it seem as if there are a lot more fan-related problems at games? Not just me? Okay…. Then can we all just respect one another and still support the teams we love? Please? [CBS Sports]
  • The worst team in the NHL this season, the Buffalo Sabres, ended up with the second overall pick in the NHL draft in June. Losing the first overall pick wasn’t fun, but considering that the consolation prize is likely Jack Eichel, they think it might still end up okay. [Die By The Blade]
  • Speaking of the draft, the Arizona Coyotes won the third overall pick for being the second worst NHL team this season. With all of this talk of Eichel and Connor McDavid, I’m sure most of you aren’t sure who’d go next. Not that it matters to the Coyotes, as they could flip that draft pick for something else. And part of that deal, in a roundabout way, might involve a coach or two? [Five For Howling]
  • Head coach Todd McLellan amicably parted ways with the San Jose Sharks yesterday. Not sure if he just saw the writing on the wall, or if he was just done with the situation. Whatever the case, there’s another NHL head coach out of work and looking for a job. [Fear The Fin]
  • Isn’t this cute? The Edmonton Oilers are making front office moves to make it look like they’re doing something! I’m not going to hold my breath for any substantial and meaningful changes up near the top of the team’s hierarchy, though. [Edmonton Oilers]
  • A very pregnant lady went to the Chicago Blackhawks game for Game 3 with their series versus the Nashville Predators on her due date, and a couple hours after the game delivered her baby. Obviously, that little boy knew that if he were born earlier, he wouldn’t have been able to go to the game. Wanna bet he becomes a hockey player? [DNAinfor Chicago]
  • And, finally, it’s your favorite sports trophy and mine, the Stanley Cup – along with some trivia about it. Learn it. Memorize it. Impress and bore your friends with your knowledge. Knowing all about it will come in handy one day; you’ll see. [SportsNet]
