Quick Strikes: It’s Teddy Toss Season!

The Bolts

Check out the top plays for the Lightning from the month of November. I have a few guesses as to which ones will make it. I suspect we’re going to see a lot of Brayden Point after the month he just had.

Connor Ingram remains one of the best parts of this season so far. He’s yet to make his NHL debit despite being called up a few times, so maybe we can let off on the rookie skate? Goalie pads are heavy.

No rookie laps for backups

Speaking of Ingram, he and Eddie Pasquale has swapped once again, in Ingram heading back to the AHL and Pasquale potentially about to see some NHL action during this upcoming back-to-back. [NHL dot com]

Pasquale, 28, has played in nine games for Syracuse this season, posting a record of 5-2-2 to go along with a 2.98 goals-against average and .900 save percentage. The Toronto, Ontario native appeared in 31 AHL games last season, splitting the season between the Bakersfield Condors and Crunch, posting a record of 16-6-7 to go along with a 2.19 goals-against average and .923 save percentage.

The boys are in NYC, getting a nice preview of the city before they inevitably get traded to the Rangers at the end of their contracts. That’s how it works, right?

The Teddies

The Teddy Bear Toss is one of the great traditions in hockey. Basically, teams partner with a local childrens charity and ask fans to donate stuffed animals. Instead of dropping them off in some bin inthe concourse, fans (and as you’ll see, players too) get to throw the toys on the ice after the home team’s first goal. Some of the smallest cities usually have the most fun with it. Case in point this season as the AHL team in Hershey broke a record in jaw-droppingly cuddly fashion.

Nice haul, Laval, but just wait until you see Hershey…

Oh, yes. OH, YES!

THEY ARE FALLING FROM THE HEAVENS! LOOK AT THEM GO!

Typical Aussies, always needing to get the biggest one.

It took them hours to pack all these into the trucks.

The teddy bears and stuffed animals are collected and donated to more than 30 local organizations, including schools, food banks, churches and lions clubs. They’re also donated to organizations such as Children’s Miracle Network and the American Cancer Society.

If you’re a fan in the Lightning organization, have no fear. We’ll let you know as soon as your city has planned a Teddy Toss night. For example, the Syracuse Crunch will have their special night on Saturday December 8th when Rochester comes to town!
