Quick Strikes: Matthew Peca scored his first NHL goal!

The Bolts

Last night’s game was another story of falling behind early and failing to make a comeback. The defense continues to struggle. [Raw Charge]

On the bright side, forward Adam Erne became the fourth member of the Lightning to make his NHL debut this season (joining Brayden Point, Tanner Richard, and Matthew Peca). [Raw Charge]

In just his fourth NHL game, Peca found the back of the net becoming the first Quinnipac University alumnus to ever accomplish that feat.

Steven Stamkos should return to hockey in about three months. With that in mind, JustinG. started a series to catalog the “91 Days of Stamkos.” Catch up on Day 1 and Day 2 before the third episode comes out this afternoon!

World Juniors

The Semifinal round begins today. Russia faces off against the US while Canada faces Sweden. Team Canada features five Lightning prospects: Anthony Cirelli, Mathieu Joseph, Taylor Raddysh, Mitchell Stephens, and goalie Connor Ingram.

The young Bolts played key roles in helping Canada advance past the Quarter finals against the Czech Republic. [Raw Charge]

Cirelli has garnered a lot of praise for his tenacity and dynamic play during this tournament. The 2015 3rd round pick has a fascinating story. He wasn’t drafted in junior hockey. He walked on to the Oshawa Generals roster and became a hero for his performance in their Memorial Cup Championship win. [Durham Region]

The League

The Columbus Blue Jackets are on a historic 16-game winning streak, one shy of the NHL record. [SB Nation]

Shea Weber was honored by the Nashville Predators in his first return to the city since the blockbuster trade that saw him exchanged for P.K. Subban this summer.
