Quick Strikes: Stamkos and Lightning win preseason game, 3-1

The Bolts

Last night’s preseason game saw the return of Steven Stamkos on the top line with Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov. Of course Kucherov scored. The game also produced an outpouring of love from fans and gifmakers alike:

RECAP: The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Nashville Predators 3-1 in commanding fashion. “‘Euphoric’ can’t really describe the explosion of noise that engulfed Amalie Arena after that goal. The line of Brayden Point, Steven Stamkos, and Nikita Kucherov set the pace at the drop of the puck, and the Lightning controlled this game for large portions of time.” [Raw Charge]

Thinking about Thoughts: @torchramrod expands on Elliotte Friedman’s 31 Thoughts, specifically the two that involved the Tampa Bay Lightning. “[Friedman] mentioned an unnamed player saying, ‘No more taking anything for granted. We’ve learned our lesson. We thought our skill would get us into the playoffs last year.’” [Raw Charge]

NHL All-Star Game logo revealed. “The NHL released its official logo for the 2018 All-Star Game, which will be held at Amalie Arena in Tampa Jan. 28. It’s fitting there’s palm trees, water and a sunset tones in the logo.” [Tampa Bay Times]

Can I just say that I love the pirate theme, especially with Gasparilla happening the weekend before!

This sure is a take: Vasilevskiy is the key to Tampa Bay’s Cup aspirations. “The Russian goalie’s .917 save percentage compares favorably to other goalies who played in at least 40 games last season. Even more tellingly, Vasilevskiy’s save percentage after the Bishop trade jumped to .926. He was ready to be the starting goaltender then and he’s still ready now.” I’d like to see a cup contender whose goalie is NOT their best player, though. [Fan Rag Sports]

Fun at 61: Veteran fan makes bid to ride with Syracuse Crunch’s new ‘Crew’ (video). “After his audition for a spot on Syracuse’s new Crunch Crew on Thursday night, it looks like Hays will get a chance to take his talents to the War Memorial this season.” [Syracuse.com]

War Memorial update: 5 things to know as the start of the Syracuse Crunch season draws near. “By the start of the season, the county hopes to have new, state-of-the-art lighting from Ephesus Lighting installed in the War Memorial.” [Syracuse.com]

The Sport

Good: Red Wings have longest odds of winning Eastern Conference. [MLive]

So, this is interesting. Sean Avery savages John Tortorella in new book. “It’s a candid and controversial one-sided conversation. Which is fine when so much of that conversation is putting John Tortorella on blast.” Y’all should take a skim of some of the Torts stories. [Puck Daddy]

The Riley Sheahan to the Pittsburgh Penguins rumors has been heating up recently. Pensburgh.com delves into what this means for the Pens. “Perhaps it would be wise to just trade [Derrick Pouliot] now, get a NHL caliber center that the team so badly needs and move on. However, that removes a talented depth defenseman which could be costly when/if multiple injuries strike the blueline as typically happens every season in Pittsburgh.” [Pensburgh]

THANKS RENAUD. (NHL waivers have opened today. We will know at 12:00pm EST Saturday if these players have cleared or been claimed).
