The Lightning
As you might know, there will be no games for the Tampa Bay Lightning until next Friday. The team is going to Stockholm to play two games against the Buffalo Sabres. The Lightning flew to Sweden last night.

The Lightning placed player Luke Witkowski on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Syracuse. Witkowski played 12 games for the Lightning, mostly on the fourth line, and recorded one goal and two assists. [Raw Charge]
This move shouldn’t be much of a surprise. While Witkowski did bring some nice flexibility to the roster by being able to play forward and defense, he was not exactly getting the job done on the ice. While he has recorded a goal and two assists, he has been near or at the bottom of the possession statistics for the whole season among the entirety of the Lightning roster. He has also been at the bottom in terms of TOI per game at 8:48.
Kevin Shattenkirk has named player of the month by the Lightning fans.
The votes are in!

A story about Luke Beamish’s retirement from hockey due to concussions.
New: An important read. Maturity, class and common sense all are on full display in an otherwise ugly situation. The hockey world can definitely learn something from this. On Luke Beamish’s decision to retire from @ErieOtters. The right thing was done. https://t.co/cMOdcXSUFx
