Quick Strikes: Bolts head to Sweden

The Lightning

As you might know, there will be no games for the Tampa Bay Lightning until next Friday. The team is going to Stockholm to play two games against the Buffalo Sabres. The Lightning flew to Sweden last night.

The Lightning placed player Luke Witkowski on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Syracuse. Witkowski played 12 games for the Lightning, mostly on the fourth line, and recorded one goal and two assists. [Raw Charge]

This move shouldn’t be much of a surprise. While Witkowski did bring some nice flexibility to the roster by being able to play forward and defense, he was not exactly getting the job done on the ice. While he has recorded a goal and two assists, he has been near or at the bottom of the possession statistics for the whole season among the entirety of the Lightning roster. He has also been at the bottom in terms of TOI per game at 8:48.

Kevin Shattenkirk has named player of the month by the Lightning fans.

The Crunch

The Syracuse Crunch have won the second game of the weekend in a row. The Binghamton Devils have been beaten 3-2. Chris Mueller, Alex Barre-Boulet and Otto Somppi each scored a goal. Louis Domingue made his debut for the Devils and allowed three power-play goals.

Forwards Mikhail Shalagin and Peter Abbandonato are heading to the Solar Bears, where they can play top minutes.

Daniel Walcott talked about his condition after scoring a goal against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday night.

Nolan Valleau played his 200th game in the AHL.
