Lightning Round: Gabriel Fortier could be heading to Syracuse

Tampa Bay Lightning 2018 second round pick Gabriel Fortier could be on his way to the AHL Syracuse Crunch for this season. The soon-to-be 21-year-old is playing his overage season in the QMJHL after it started up in October. However, the league has been under suspension due to COVID-19 for much of the past two months. They expect to be back, but Fortier might not be re-joining his team in Moncton when that happens.

As an overage player, Fortier is eligible to play in the AHL right away. It seems like he’ll be getting that wish after Syracuse Crunch COO Jim Sarosy revealed player cards for the locker room, with Fortier’s name visible on the back of the pile. Serron Noel is another highly anticipated prospect for the Florida Panthers who will also be dressing for the Crunch as a rookie.

After a brief scare and a subsequent salary cap explanation, Tyler Johnson is back on the Tampa Bay Lightning roster and will slot in on the second line. This begins his redemption season after a poor showing last season. He needs to show he is worth his contract or we could be seeing him off this roster one way or another next season. Yes, I’m talking about the B-word.

Sorry, Yanni, it’s for the good of the team. [Gourde is not overrated, Hardev! – Acha]

On Wednesday night, Harnarayan Singh became the first non-white play-by-play announcer to call an NHL game on national TV in English. Singh has been the PxP announcer for Hockey Night in Punjabi since 2008.

A catfish found its way on the ice in Nashville. Don’t worry, it was wearing a mask!

It’s been well-documented how poorly Anthony DeAngelo takes it having to go left. Woof. It’s a good thing we traded him, the pick we got back ended up being traded for Ryan McDonagh, who definitely knows how to defend in the NHL.
