On this Wednesday morning we have some actual hockey news for you! As was announced yesterday, the Syracuse Crunch have signed goaltender Clint Windsor for the rest of the current season and the 2020-21 season.

The 26-year-old spent last season with the Orlando Solar Bears in the ECHL. In 30 games, he recorded 15 wins, posting a 2.45 goals-against average and .927 save percentage.
Earlier in the season, Windsor also signed a Professional Try Out agreement with the Ottawa Senators’ affiliate Belleville Senators, but eventually was released and returned to the Solar Bears.
Besides Windsor, The Syracuse Crunch have currently three goaltenders under contract: Mike Condon, Scott Wedgewood and Spencer Martin. Their contracts will all expire after this season.

While the AHL is holding out hope that more games will be played, Crunch Corner is ready to wrap up the 2019-20 season. The logistics of getting things back and running just seem too great at this point and even the best scenarios will start infringing on the off-season or the beginning of next season.
The KHL announced this morning that the 2020 Gagarin Cup Playoffs have been cancelled which means that this year’s Gagarin Cup champion won’t be awarded. Earlier, two of the teams – Barys Nur-Sultan and Jokerit Helsinki withdrew from the postseason due to Finland and Kazakhstan’s governments’ decision to close the borders because of the COVID-19 outbreak. AK Bars Kazan also released a statement asking to cancel this season.

The NHL teams continue to explore the free agents market. Yesterday, the Carolina Hurricanes signed brothers David and Jason Cotton to an entry-level contract. Both players finished their NCAA careers at Boston College in the 2019-20 season.

The Minnesota Wild signed forward Mitchell Chaffee to a two-year deal. The 22-years old forward spent the previous season with the University of Massachusetts and recorded 29 points in 30 games.

Connor Bedard of North Vancouver has received exceptional status and will be eligible to play in the WHL as a 15-year-old next season. It’s the first time that the WHL will have a player with such status.
