Lightning Round: the Cup is heading to the Czech Republic

The Stanley Cup is making its way through the Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning (x2) team over the summer and it looks like it’ll be joining Ondrej Palat and Jan Rutta in the Czech Republic to starting September 1st. In an Instagram post, Sport.cz announced that fans will get to meet the Cup on Wednesday in the hands of Palat, followed by Rutta on the Thursday. Have fun!

Before it headed over, Stanley got to spend the day with Barclay Goodrow!

Alex Killorn wrote a post In His Own Words on his day with the Stanley Cup, namely taking it around the town of Montreal, particularly a french bar. There were moments he thought a fight was going to break out, but he had a big enough posse that he ended up being ok. It’s quite a read. [NHL dot com]

“The Stanley Cup arrived first thing Friday morning, around 8:30 a.m. Our director of hockey operations Mathieu Darche had it the day before me. We were all gathered at my parents’ house in Beaconsfield. I just got back to Montreal last week, so it was nice to see family. Hadn’t seen my mom in a long time, maybe two years. And my sister had a baby. I hadn’t even seen her pregnant, and now I get to meet her baby. It’s been nice to see everyone. We took professional pictures with the Cup in the backyard, lots of photos so we could always remember the experience. And then we had some friends come over so they could get some photos with the Cup too.”

Congrats to Caley and her growing family, and goodluck on her future in Chicago! She wrote her own post In Her Own Words that is definitely worth reading. [NHL dot com]

“I’m about to embark on a new journey in my life, but, unfortunately, that means I will no longer be working for the Tampa Bay Lightning organization. I had a baby – our daughter Bella — during the pandemic and that sort of changed everything. I was fortunate enough to be able to still work from home and be a part of the organization, cover the team and do what I love in a very unique circumstance. But that’s no longer feasible. I’m starting a family. My husband and I have our second baby on the way, and we’d love to have more if we can. After having a year and a half with my husband and with my baby and being around my family during Covid, it just kind of solidified that this is going to be a time where I need to make my family my priority and be around my kids while they’re young and be at home and be a mom.”

Ryan Reaves also wrote an article trying to reignite the NHL’s commitment against racial injustice. Last summer is over and people don’t seem to be interested anymore. As one of the founders of the HDA, Reaves wanted to reaffirm their call to action and make sure speaking out against injustice was still front of mind as the new season gets underway. The HDA recently kicked Evander Kane out of the group so the current founders are Reaves, Matt Dumba, Joel Ward, Nazem Kadri, and Anthony Duclair.

Jack Eichel has changed agents, he is now represented by Pat Brisson. The overwhelming prediction from this change is that Brisson is going to make sure a trade gets done using his influence as a man/company that manages most of the biggest names in the sport.
