Tampa Bay Lightning select Jack Harvey to open the 7th round in the 2023 NHL Draft

The Tampa Bay Lightning have selected double overager Jack Harvey with the 7th round pick from the Anaheim Ducks (acquired way back for Alex Volkov). Harvey is committed to Boston University of the NCAA after playing last season in the USHL with the Chicago Steel. The 20-year-old left-shot center played 62 games in the UHSL, scoring 40 goals and 74 points to finish fourth in league scoring (third on his dominant Steel team).

Not to be confused with the Indycar driver, Harvey was a late bloomer, only breaking into the USHL after his first draft year. I believe he played center last year, so we’ll go with that. We will see what he turns into!

“Puck skills are the engine that drives Harvey’s game. He seamlessly strings together pass receptions, dekes, and shots in motion. Hand speed and creativity combine with projectable setups – attack at an angle, slow down to bait the defender’s stick, then accelerate – make his puck handling an above-average NHL skill. The puck handling appears in Harvey’s shooting in the form of curl-and-drag wristers and tricky off-the-pass shots.” – EliteProspects 2022 NHL Draft Guide

Because he played with some NHL prospects last year, there’s a fair number of highlights to peruse through!
