Calvin de Haan was a 12th overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders. Over his career he played in 573 regular season games in the NHL, scoring 131 (21+110) points in them. The 2022-23 season he played for the Carolina Hurricanes, scoring 12 (2+10) in 53 games. Over the last three seasons with Carolina and Chicago he has been a steady defensive presence.
De Haan is a bottom-pairing left-side defenseman with decent defensive numbers, and he led all Hurricanes’ blueliners in hits during the 2022-23 season. He will potentially fill in a 3LD spot on Tampa Bay’s line-up, which became vacant after a departure of another former Carolina’s blueliner Ian Cole.
